Katie McDonald

Published - 13 February 2020
It is with great sadness that we learned of the passing of Katie McDonald on Tuesday  11th February at Aberdeen Royal Infirmary after a long illness, bravely fought.

Katie was a long standing member and supporter of the FP Club Centre, a Rugby Club  stalwart as well as an active Committee and Petanque Section member over many years.

Always happy to put her organisation and hospitality skills to good use, she was the driving force behind any number of events at 86 Queens Road including Christmas Parties, Burns Lunches, Curry Nights and Petanque Dinners.
Katie's first sporting love was skiing. She was a member of Aberdeen Ski Club for over 40 years, and was an Honorary President of the Club having been Chairman on a number of occasions. She was also Secretary and Treasurer of Aberdeen Sports Council for over 20 years.

Katie became Secretary of Scottish Golden Oldies Rugby, a role that she somewhat fell into. When she turned up at the inaugural AGM, following the first festival at Perth RFC, she was the only one sober enough at the meeting to take the minutes!
Spending most of her working life in the insurance business, Katie was the first female insurance broker in Aberdeen. Latterly, she was the Constituency Organiser for the Gordon Conservatives for the local MSP, Dr Nanette Milne.

She became involved with Grammar Rugby and has been seen regularly chasing folk to buy raffle tickets during, and after, Dave's term of office as President. Thereafter, Katie accompanied him to many Golden Oldies Rugby Festivals around the world. All through Europe and America, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, Hong Kong to Japan and even Tillicoultry! Katie, Dave and his wheelchair were very well known at many rugby events worldwide.

Katie will be very sadly missed by all who knew her and our deepest condolences are extended to husband Dave.

The funeral is tomorrow, Friday 21st February at 2.45pm at the Crematorium West Chapel. There will be an outgoing collection for the Anchor Unit. The Funeral Tea will follow at the Club Centre, 86 Queens Road.
