Aberdeen Grammar 22 Jed-Forest 36

Published - 23 November 2015

These are troubled times at Rubislaw, where a misfiring Aberdeen Grammar tumbled into the National 1 relegation zone places after losing at home to Jed-Forest.

In their fourth consecutive defeat Grammar leaked six tries, three of which were down to rank poor defending.

Coach Stuart Corsar said: "I just don't know what to make of them. It's not for lack of effort, that's not our problem, but taking our chances. Jed showed how it is done. There were some good individual performances but that is not what this game is about."

Grammar started brightly enough, easing ahead through a fourth-minute penalty from the boot of stand off Ali Addy, only to surrender a soft try a minute later when the home defence allowed winger Rory Marshall a free run at the line.

The Rubislaw men hit back when Addy stroked over his second penalty in 15 minutes but rarely threatened to score a try.

By contrast, the Borders men looked dangerous every time that they had the ball in hand, adding two more touchdowns before the half-hour through lock Graeme Law and hooker Scott Raeburn.

Stand off Gregor Mein converted two of the tries to give the Riverside outfit a 17-6 lead before Grammar scored a try in 36 minutes to come within touching distance after flanker Ali Mackie, one of the few to impress in the home side, crashed over.

Addy failed to add the conversion.

When Addy kicked his third penalty just after the break a Grammar rally looked on the cards but it proved too be a false dawn. They faded as an attacking force, settling for a fourth Addy penalty.

Jed took control of the game, adding three more tries through centres Robert Hogg and Gregor Young and a penalty try.

Mein converted two of the scores.

A late try for Grammar full back Martin McRobbie was only a consolation for the disappointed home supporters, who had seen their favourites out-thought and, ultimately, out-scored on a shocking day for Grammar who, on this form, look a side that could well go down.

They will certainly need to raise their game for Saturday's match at home to Dundee High.
